Right, I totally missed that X was running:

$ sudo lsof /dev/fb0

so I simply:

And I can verify in dmesg the call to put_fb_info:

You'll see that modprobe to radeonfb still fails.

If you now compare with the patch (v4) applied (+ WARN_ON and xdm
service stopped):

You'll see a printk INFO for the call to offb_destroy:

offb_destroy is called too late, which explains the failure for
