Depending on what you use to generate patches, can you:
QUILT_DIFF_OPTS="-F ^[[:alpha:]\$_].*[^:]\$"
or .gitconfig:
[diff "default"] xfuncname = "^[[:alpha:]$_].*[^:]$"
That avoids mistaking labels (like the above balanced:) for function names.
The patch itself makes sense though.
