This is Intel i7 Sandy bridge on Asrock Z68 Pro3-M.
EFI -> GRUB -> Kernel -> crash EFI -> efishell -> GRUB -> Kernel -> works
The interresting part of the diff between those two boot attempts is:

parse_dmar_table() returns with -ENODEV. Could it be that EFI forgets to add the DMAR tables unless the efishell is used?
