The patch only went into the kernel last release or maybe one before, and it came from Ubuntu's kernel, we instantly got a lot of people giving out about udev getting slow, where we get very few reports from people about not having their floppy accessible.
Disabling the PNP ids was the lesser of two evils, since floppys really aren't that common, but BIOSes with floppy drives enabled are.
