[1.] mapping kernel memory from driver to user-space crashes
[2.] Full description of the problem/report:
Device drivers will map their allocated memory to user-space via mmap,
using the
(.nopage) .fault-method. When doing this, the system goes into different
forms of
crash. When the application starts with writing to the mapped space, the
system
freezes, hard reboot needed, when first access is a read, the page-fault
function
of the driver is called in an endless loop, even if the application is
aborted and
the driver unloaded! A soft reboot is needed.
The detailed effects are different between kmall allocated space,
vmalloc allocated
and get_zeroed_page() allocated, but in each case crashing the system.
This is tested with several drivers, which where running stable before.
The attached example is a dummy driver, used to teach students at
university.
