SubjectIncreasing PCIBIOS_MIN_IO to 0x4000 broke on-board nvidia audio
Hi.

The commits 71db63acff69618b3d9d3114bd061938150e146b ([PATCH] increase
PCIBIOS_MIN_IO on x86) and 0b2bfb4e7ff61f286676867c3508569bea6fbf7a
(ACPI: increase PCIBIOS_MIN_IO on x86) shortly after -rc5 caused my
on-board audio to stop working. See attached output from dmesg and lspci.

On a git-related note; I tried using git-bisect in order to find what
caused the regression, but since the kernel is completely broken from me
from commit f33ea7f404e592e4563b12101b7a4d17da6558d7 to
968002166cce2ef4ead8c9441a9dd5b945c9ed1e (hardcoded VM_FAULT numbers
that changed) I was unable to test the revision that git wanted me to.

Instead I did the bisection manually. My method follows, in case someone
runs in to similar problems in the future.

1. run make menuconfig and add a prefix to the kernel version (-bisect)
so the modules and kernel are easy to identify.

2. Start gitk --all and tag some commits that look like good bisection
points (between known good and bad versions). I named all my tags
bis[number] so they're easy to remove later.

3. cat .git/refs/tags/bis[number] > .git/refs/heads/bisect

4. git checkout -f bisect && make
I had to use -f, otherwise some files wouldn't be checked out
properly eg. the Makefile.

5. (as root and using grub)
rm -rf /lib/modules/"last-bisection"
make modules_install
cp arch/x86_64/boot/bzImage /boot/kernel-2.6-bisect
reboot

6. Test the new kernel, goto 2.

Regards,
Lukas Sandström
