Ok, dmesg says accel = 0. But chvt 1 gives a black screen, no text at all. chvt [23456] gives a dirty screen as before. dmesg attached (2.6.12-rc1-mm1 with CONFIG_FB_INTEL_DEBUG).
By the way, cat /sys/module/intelfb/parameters/accel still says Y.
And cat /sys/module/intelfb/parameters/mode gives the following oops (I think it is related to CONFIG_FB_INTEL_DEBUG):
