It's a known issue with gnome-terminal. You'll need to upgrade to the latest gnome-terminal and vte packages.
"make menuconfig" works nicely here under KDE and text-only console.

Again, this is not a kernel problem.
rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__db*
Then, try "rpm -i" again.
