Here are some numbers for you. Using 2.4.20-pre-10-erik (the
hacked up kernel I happen to be using on my desktop) using gcc
2.95.4 (from Debian testing) and my stock kernel configuration:

bzImage compiled -O2: 1268158
bzImage compiled -Os: 1251431

vmlinux compiled -O2: 3457737
vmlinux compiled -Os: 3437257

/lib/modules/kernel size -O2: 2472629
/lib/modules/kernel size -Os: 2463661
