SubjectIDE CDROM problems -- No medium found -- 2.4.12-ac3
Greetings;

I've been having difficulties mounting CD-ROMs with 2.4.12-ac3 on my x86
uniproc machine (with only Rik's vmpatch applied).

mount will sometimes give:
$ sudo mount /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom
mount: block device /dev/hdc is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: No medium found

Other times, mount will give:
$ mount /mnt/cdrom
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/cdrom,
or too many mounted file systems
(aren't you trying to mount an extended partition,
instead of some logical partition inside?)

Others are much more succinct:
$ mount /mnt/cdrom
mount: No medium found

Other times, in this same uptime, the same CD-ROMs mount just fine, with
the same commands to perform the mounting.

To my knowledge, I am not doing any of that funky ide-scsi stuff. I have
been using grip's cdparanoia to rip CDs; those usually work quite well.

Included here is a list of everything in my .config that had =y or =m.
(The only loaded modules at the moment are: vfat, fat, and usb-uhci.)

I haven't been able to find a pattern of work/failure that makes any
sense. I am hoping someone else here has seen similar problems, or may
have ideas what to do to find the problem. :)

Cheers! :)
