Yes. That happens on 2.2.16 as well (at least on the RH 6.2 2.2.16-3 version).
You can then change the CD in the drive, umount it, remount it, and start copying (cp -a /mnt/cdrom/* /tmp/somewhere). Then, look at all the funny 'access beyond end of file' errors filling up the log file.
