In that case, you could also have drivers/media/sound there.
Do we have anything else that's related to multimedia? Current frame buffer devices probably don't count.
Another thing that definitely makes sense is distinguishing by type of kernel-internal interface. net vs. isdn vs. char vs. block is certainly an example of that.
