Making use of the directory hierarchy can be convenient.
You might consider something like /dev/disk/scsi/1/4/0/0_3 (this is how we'd name scsi controller 1, ID 4, lun 0, partition 3 on BeOS).
The IDE names like /dev/disk/ide/ata/0/master/0/0_2 are a bit more verbose and I'm less fond of them.
