Subject2.2.14 ext3 + reiserfs incompatibility
From
Date
Hi folks,

this report is about reiserfs + ext3 incompatibility on 2.2.14 (was
already reported for 2.2.13).

I have forward-ported linux-2.2.13-ext3-0.0.2c to 2.2.14 (mostly
changing event to global_event), and patched ext3 and the current
(journaling) 2.2.13-reiserfs-3.5.14 into plain ftp.XX.kernel.org's
2.2.14. reiserfs alone is okay (also in use), ext3fs alone is untested.

Gives the following trouble (reformatted for readibility):

make[3]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.2.14-ma2/fs/reiserfs'
gcc -D__KERNEL__ -I/usr/src/linux/include -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O2 -fno-strict-aliasing -pipe -fno-strength-reduce -m486 -DCPU=486 -c -o journal.o journal.c
journal.c:274: redefinition of `buffer_journaled'
/usr/src/linux/include/linux/fs.h:312: `buffer_journaled' previously defined here
make[3]: *** [journal.o] Error 1

I haven't looked deeper into these definition clashes again, it seems
that there's some misunderstanding of what variables are global/shared
between ext3/jfs and reiserfs, or what variables are private.

May I kindly ask Hans and Stephen in particular to look into this?
Looking at the ext3fs patch, it deals with 45 files, most of them
outside fs/jfs and fs/ext3, while reiserfs's 77 files hardly touch
anything outside fs/reiserfs.

I recall I reported this trouble some time ago, it seems to remain.

Here's the .config: (begin-base64 to be decoded with GNU sharutils 4.2c)
