Subject2.3.40, Cyrix 686MX and kernel panic
Date
Hi,

Compiling 2.3.40 with PPro/6x86MX (CONFIG_M686) gives a kernel that
panics on a Cyrix PR166MMX with the message "Kernel compiled for PPro+,
requires PGE feature!" (from include/asm-i386/bugs.h).

This check was introduced in the 2.3.40 patch bundle and it looks like
my 686MX doesn't claim to have PGE :-

duncodin:/proc # cat cpuinfo
processor : 0
vendor_id : CyrixInstead
cpu family : 6
model : 1
model name : 6x86MX 2x Core/Bus Clock
stepping : 3
cpu MHz : 133.122021
fdiv_bug : no
hlt_bug : no
sep_bug : no
f00f_bug : no
coma_bug : yes
fpu : yes
fpu_exception : yes
cpuid level : 1
wp : yes
flags : fpu de tsc msr cx8 mtrr cmov mmx
bogomips : 132.71

Does this mean we need another cpu choice or can we define
CONFIG_X86_PGE=n?

Cheers,

Mike
