SubjectPartition check crashes during boot process of new installation

problem, I would like to install Linux 2.2.6 on my laptop.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2>Unfortunately, every time I boot with the
bootdisk (bare.i or bareapm.i) the system crashes during the partition check
with an error similar to the one below (with or without parameters for the
ramdisk : mem=81920k or 0x500000; hda=4200,16,63 (Toshiba MK2101MAN 2.1GB);
ro).</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2></FONT><FONT size=2>Tired to boot and boot again
on floppy, I decided to install the zipslack hoping I could have a log
somewhere. But unfortunately the result is the same : Crash during partition
check with the following error (launched without parameters so 64MB
