Hello,
I switch to 2.2.10-ac8 (RH 6.0) last night and saw that the slocate cron run every night was still active, consuming 100% CPU.
I straced it : it repeatadly run through the following two loops :
/* 29 entries */, 15729) = 620 lseek(4, 0, SEEK_SET) = 0 lseek(4, 0, SEEK_CUR) = 0 getdents(4, 0 632 12 632 28 632 52 632 76 632 96 632 120 632 140 632 164 632 184 632 208 632 228 632 248 632 272 632 292 632 316 632 340 632 364 632 384 632 408 632 432 632 448 632 464 632 484 632 508 632 524 632 548 632 564 632 584 632 608 632 /* 30 entries */, 15729) = 632 lseek(4, 1, SEEK_SET) = 1 lseek(4, 0, SEEK_CUR) = 1 getdents(4, 0 620 16 620 40 620 64 620 84 620 108 620 128 620 152 620 172 620 196 620 216 620 236 620 260 620 280 620 304 620 328 620 352 620 372 620 396 620 420 620 436 620 452 620 472 620 496 620 512 620 536 620 552 620 572 620 596 620 /* 29 entries */, 15729) = 620
I stopped the command and retried by hand, with the same result.
I reverted back to 2.2.10-ac4, and everything is running OK again.
If it may be of interest, I automount my home over NFS and a few other directories.
