    I think the detection just isn't very reliable. Some alternatives might be to
    use the IEEE-1284 autoprobe information, or to just try and handshake with the
    camera.

    They do exist, but I'm not sure I am allowed to distribute them. You could
    try the Connectix/Logitech web site.
