Well if you want to be technically accurate about it then there is no officially production quality egcs until gcc 3.0.0, but egcs sucks noticably less than the 'production quality' gcc 2.8.1

The only known egcs-1.1.2 kernel problems where sparc, and are fixed in the errata. Im not sure right now if the ping bug is egcs or ping relying on a gcc quirk
