This wasn't quite enough when I tried it - you need to do two more things after you apply the patch. First, apply this patch:
----- begin patch ----- --- arch/alpha/kernel/sys_takara.c.bad Wed Jun 9 18:19:45 1999 +++ arch/alpha/kernel/sys_takara.c Wed Jun 9 18:34:15 1999 @@ -177,8 +177,6 @@ takara_swizzle(struct pci_dev *dev, int slot = PCI_SLOT(dev->devfn); if (pin == 1) pin += (20 - busslot); - else - / *printk("TAKARA: device pin error!\n"); */ } else /* must be a card-based bridge */ { /* printk("common_fixup: TAKARA: " @@ -186,6 +184,7 @@ takara_swizzle(struct pci_dev *dev, int "behind builtin bridge yet.\n"); */ slot = PCI_SLOT(dev->devfn); } + } *pinp = pin; return slot; ----- end patch ----- If this doesn't boot (you get errors in loading the kernel), try this change to arch/alpha/Makefile:
change the line
LINKFLAGS = -static -T arch/alpha/vmlinux.lds -N -relax
to
LINKFLAGS = -static -T arch/alpha/vmlinux.lds # -N -relax
and rebuild the boot image.
This worked for me once I also configured the kernel with NO special settings other than the stock default that came with it other than SMP and my specific hardware changes.
