It screams in network/{core,ethernet,sched,ipv4,net_init}.o about
local_bh_{en,dis}able not being defined on linking.

i586, egcs-19990524 (2.95 prerelease), binutils-2.9.1.0.24, glibc-2.1.1pre3

You can tell how much most of us use non-SMP kernels :-)
This should fix it:
