I didn't reply to the original message but to keep the record straigth, you
can type the full name of a file which has an association and NT does the
right thing. This works on the command line too, not only with the explorer.
I can type foo.avi and have it played under my NT4 SP3 machine.

Ah. But with binfmt_misc, you CAN do that in linux, and it is ALREADY
in the kernel.
