SubjectPnP/BIOS/parport/IRQ/3c59x/network problems with 2.2.x
After compiling brandnew 2.2.9 I was going to switch to interrupt driven
I/O in parport. So I entered into BIOS settings to set the LPT1
manually to io=0x378, irq=7, EPP=1.9, then booted the new kernel.
Result: no network. The 3c59x driver (compiled as a module) complains:

eth0: transmit timed out, tx_status 00 status e601.
eth0: Interrupt posted but not delivered -- IRQ blocked by another device?
Flags; bus-master 1, full 0; dirty 80 current 80.
Transmit list 00000000 vs. c7e86200.

Please, note, that eth0 now is on IRQ16.

I've returned to BIOS and set the LPT1 to auto, EPP=1.9. After that the
network is OK but

echo 7 > /proc/parport/0/irq

leads to a lot of interrupts (a little bit less than 100 per second)
after the first attempt to print even if the printer is not currently
printing:

root# cat /proc/interrupts ; sleep 1 ; cat /proc/interrupts

Is that normal? And, eth0 is on IRQ17 now...

I've checked the differences in system logs for two different BIOS
settings:
