Hi,
There could be a new ioctl which returns the arp entry for an ip address even if it's not in arp cache? If it's not in cache then kernel could send a arp message and find it out. Or perhaps it could be better to include it into the rtnetlink? I could use this kind of functionality with iwspy ioctl calls (SIOCGIWSPY,SIOCSIWSPY).
