[1.] One line summary of the problem: Removing a big file made an oops !
========================================================================== [2.] Full description of the problem/report: I have tried to remove a file (an iso9660 image) on a ext2fs partition with rm and the kernel made a Oops. The file was nonetheless removed but its disk space remained. (The file size was approximately 580 MB) The bug is non reproducible (in fact I have not succeeded).
========================================================================== [3.] Keywords (i.e., modules, networking, kernel): ext2fs, big file, rm
========================================================================== [4.] Kernel version (from /proc/version): Linux version 2.2.7 (root@mathieu) (gcc version 2.7.2.3) #1 Thu Apr 29 00:10:19 CEST 1999
========================================================================== [5.] Output of Oops.. message (if applicable) with symbolic information resolved (see Documentation/oops-tracing.txt)
Options used: -v /usr/src/linux/vmlinux (specified) -o /lib/modules/2.2.7/ (default) -k /proc/ksyms (default) -l /proc/modules (default) -m /usr/src/linux/System.map (default) -c 1 (default)
Warning in compare_ksyms_lsmod, module nfs is in lsmod but not in ksyms, probably no symbols exported Apr 29 21:02:59 mathieu kernel: Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 00000800 Apr 29 21:02:59 mathieu kernel: current->tss.cr3 = 0364e000, %cr3 = 0364e000 Apr 29 21:02:59 mathieu kernel: *pde = 00000000 Apr 29 21:02:59 mathieu kernel: Oops: 0000 Apr 29 21:02:59 mathieu kernel: CPU: 0 Apr 29 21:02:59 mathieu kernel: EIP: 0010:[find_buffer+42/68] Apr 29 21:02:59 mathieu kernel: EFLAGS: 00010206 Apr 29 21:02:59 mathieu kernel: eax: 00000800 ebx: 00104702 ecx: 00000806 edx: 00000800 Apr 29 21:02:59 mathieu kernel: esi: 00000400 edi: 00104702 ebp: 0000009f esp: c3651e7c Apr 29 21:02:59 mathieu kernel: ds: 0018 es: 0018 ss: 0018 Apr 29 21:02:59 mathieu kernel: Process rm (pid: 834, process nr: 49, stackpage=c3651000) Apr 29 21:02:59 mathieu kernel: Stack: c013c12f 00000806 00104702 00000400 00000035 00000100 c34aa720 00000000 Apr 29 21:02:59 mathieu kernel: c34aa720 00000015 c3650000 00000246 0010021c 00000806 c342767c 00000002 Apr 29 21:02:59 mathieu kernel: 00000100 00104663 00000000 0000009f c013c3c8 c2fd9ed0 0000360c c35f1cd4 Apr 29 21:02:59 mathieu kernel: Call Trace: [trunc_indirect+455/736] [trunc_dindirect+384/436] [ext2_truncate+123/384] [ext2_delete_inode+81/120] [ext2_delete_inode+103/120] [iput+124/484] [d_delete+78/108] Apr 29 21:02:59 mathieu kernel: Code: 8b 12 39 58 04 75 f3 39 70 08 75 ee 66 39 48 0c 75 e8 89 c2 Warning: trailing garbage ignored on Code: line Text: 'Code: 8b 12 39 58 04 75 f3 39 70 08 75 ee 66 39 48 0c 75 e8 89 c2 ' Garbage: ' '
