MRTG is a perl thing correct? does it use "ifconfig" or anything like
that? you might want to upgrade those .. (i believe it's
"net-tools-1.50" or something)

$ ifconfig --version
net-tools 1.50
ifconfig 1.38 (1999-01-05)
$
