    "DLOCALE" is: "$(HOSTCC) ... -DLOCALE" in the makefile. somehow the forepart
    of this is getting nulled. i see this as well, my workaround is simply to
    run the toplevel make menuconfig instead of running make in the lxdialog
    dir.
