SubjectRe: Linux 2.0.37pre8
Could I bother you to put in the following two patches? The first is
from 2.2 to automagically determine the architecture (I fell into this
trap again when trying 2.0.37pre7 on alpha, after having been spoilt by
the 2.2 Makefile).

The second is to allow for make versions >= 3.77, which barfs on an
rvalue alone on a line without an lvalue to which to assign it to.
Believe me, this is also a FAQ on the alpha lists.
