By any chance was this manifesting as a 5-minute time sink between reboots on UP machines? I'm seeing just that with a simple 'shutdown -r now' on my P5-UP setup. I'll investigate if this happens when I boot to Win32 (ie hardware issue). As it is the whole 'date -s' routine is getting old ;).
