No, there is no `the CHS'. You are fairly free to invent what you would like. CHS is not a property of the disk, but of your imagination.
A step by step solution?
Step 1: "I have the same problem" - be explicit. What is your problem? What are the kernel boot messages ("dmesg | grep hd")? What is your kernel version? What does "hdparm -I" say?
