You mean OOM (Out Of Memory) or something other ? Current version of Linux (2.2.x) does not handle OOM situations gracefully :-/ It's known problem.

If you mean just OOM then it's normal :-/ There are no trivial fix and so it's not known when (and if) it'll be fixed.
