And this is not true for solaris! Just give me ONE driver which works with solaris 2.4 --> 8. Oh, you want to say these are different versions? Well *I* can give you a hand full of drivers which will happily work with a 2.2.13 linux-kernel. So, what is the point with binary drivers?
