Chris,

It looks to me like glibc has always supported 32-bit UIDs. You stated
that patching glibc would allow your kernel patch to be simpler. Breaking
glibc if it isn't really necessary doesn't make sense to me, even if it
means your kernel patch would otherwise be more complex.
