Not really. Real fix for symlink problems is to cut down on the amount of stack space used by the recursion in question. I have it an we can push the limit to tolerable 32. I will post the thing once I'll run the tests on the current kernel. It works with 2.3.26 and earlier, so I hope that it will be OK. With the depth 32 we will be able to forget about the problem - it's _way_ beyond any reasonable setup.
