I don't think this is a good idea at all. There are too many programs out there which are written incorrectly if vfork is defined this way. You would break them just to allow a few other programs which are _known_ and where the author is crazy enough to use this horrible feature.
It would be much better to rewrite the function relying on the vfork behaviour to use a thread for this. It's much cleaner and protable.
