SubjectProblems with NFS client in 2.2.0pre5?
I just upgraded my workstation from 2.1.131 to 2.2.0pre5, and I have
noticed something peculiar with NFS. I mount my home directory on the
local file server (A Dual PPro running Solaris 2.6) over NFS, and after a
period of inactivity, when I try to do an ls in the directory I am in, I
get a bunch of "No such file or directory" errors from ls. After I type
cd (I'm in my home directory already, so cd `pwd` would be equivalent),
and type ls again, everything is fine. I didn't have this problem with
2.1.131.

Workstation:

RH 5.2 with kernel 2.2.0-pre5, SMP, Dual PII/266, 384MB RAM, DPT PM2044UW
with eata driver in kernel, Diamond Fireport 40 with ncr53c8xx driver as
module, two Matrox Millennium II PCIs (VGA text-mode console), 3c905 with
3c59x driver in kernel. Hardware stable for over a year and a half.

Linux kevin.pasture.net 2.2.0-pre5 #3 SMP Thu Jan 7 12:24:59 EST 1999 i686
unknown
joni:/export/home/rmini
22198372 11867493 10108896 54% /home/rmini
joni:/export/home/rmini on /home/rmini type nfs (rw,addr=151.198.242.9)
CONFIG_NFS_FS=m (NFS filesystem as module)

Server:

SunOS joni.pasture.net 5.6 Generic_105182-05 i86pc i386 i86pc
/dev/dsk/c0t1d0s7 22198372 11867495 10108894 55% /export/home

Output:

[rmini@kevin rmini]$ ls
.
.
.
ls: gnome-ftp: No such file or directory
ls: Lucent: No such file or directory
[rmini@kevin rmini]$ cd
[rmini@kevin rmini]$ ls
DeadLetters/ mAgent/
GNUstep/ mail@
.
.
.

I haven't yet had a chance to reproduce it, I will try to get a controlled
situation later on in the day and strace ls and watch the packets on
the wire.

As usual, if any more information is needed, just shout. I'll be posting
a followup later with any of my findings.
