Not so bad, really. Install (rpm -ivh), not upgrade (rpm -Uvh) new slang, upgrade (rpm -Uvh) slang-devel and this will do the trick: you'll got both new and old slang and you'll be able to compile new util-linux while lynx and slrn will be Ok.
