In 2.2.0-final, if standard output is a pipe, /proc/self/fd/1 can be stat()ed successfully, but attempting to open it again fails with ENOENT.
Example:
$ sh | cat exec 3>/proc/self/fd/1 sh: /proc/self/fd/1: No such file or directory
