I'm not thrilled with ps/2 mouse performance on my system so I looked at psauc.x and found this:
/* Uncomment the following line if your mouse needs initialization. */
/* #define INITIALIZE_DEVICE */ ... #if defined INITIALIZE_DEVICE outb_p(AUX_ENABLE,AUX_COMMAND); /* Enable Aux */ aux_write_ack(AUX_SET_SAMPLE); aux_write_ack(100); /* 100 samples/sec */ aux_write_ack(AUX_SET_RES); aux_write_ack(3); /* 8 counts per mm */ aux_write_ack(AUX_SET_SCALE21); /* 2:1 scaling */ poll_aux_status_nosleep(); #endif /* INITIALIZE_DEVICE */
If my mouse works, but is somewhat sluggish, is INITIALIZE_DEVICE something I should try?
I'm using 2.0.3x and a Logitech trackman marble on a PII-333. Sometimes when I roll the ball, it doesn't respond well. If I really whip the ball around, there's very little response at all. It seems as if the sampling rate may be too low. Under Win98 (for games:) on the same hardware, the trackball works fine. I've had the same problem on other systems with my trackballs, and have ended up running them as serial mice in the past because of it.
