No you don't - I don't want tar knowing and changing file-system specific attributes.
Leave tar alone. If you want specific fancy utilities, make xtar (extended tar) or something better, I don't see why we should alter tar to suit our self-centered view of the world though.

Any idea on when we likely to see any real implementaion of this from any real vendors such as Sun?
