I discovered a dquota bug in 2.0.34 and I brute fixed it (ftp://e-mind.com/pub/linux/kernel-patches/quot-2.0.34-2.diff) some time ago (the relevant discussion of the patch in this list). I am not sure if the patch can rise fs corruption in unfortunately conditions (could be right for 2.0 but sure not for 2.1 SMP). Maybe the right patch would be to move the writing of the dquota file in a bh handler? The patch is reported to fix the problem well for 2.0.36pre though (= not yet fs corruption ;-).
