Oh! so much talk about the above subjects. Why not just kill every bird with one stone and create VSlowFS which has support for:
. filesystem layering (Unix->simple) . per file metafile resources (think perl's __DATA__) . undeletion (actually, lets fall back to VMS and do a built in RCS type versioning with each file; undeletion would happen automatically) . per file/directory compression (why the hell not?) . acl's (yeah, just part of metafile info, actually)
