Appletalk already has a dot file convention used by the netatalk daemons across many platforms and on HFS too, so that one is covered

Start with Unix98. S_ISDIR etc dont cover it right now. I still think its entirely a libc problem. The fact it goes like lightning under reiserfs is just a nice bit of news on top.
