SubjectThe most stable kernel version for SMP machines?
I have been using Linux kernel 2.0.12 for a long time on a four 200MHz
Pentium Pro system with an Adaptec 2940, a DPT RAID controller, and a
3Com 3c905 network card. The only serious problem has been that, from
time to time, especially when network access is heavy, the message

"eth0: Transmitter access conflict"

would pop up numerous times and all network accesses were then
disabled. The only way out was to reboot. But at least this was
manageable. I put in a cron job just to detect the situation and to
reboot if needed.

In order to get away from this problem, I tried kernel 2.0.35 recently.
However, it ran fine for several hours and then there were these
horrible

"IRQ deadlock detected by CPU [0123]"

messages showed up on console. And then the only way out was to press the
reset button.

So, does anybody have good experience with kernel later than 2.0.12 on a
SMP machine, without any of the two problems mentioned above?
