There is a combination of hardware that is crap, but the code is safe and
very stable IMHO (many others, too).

This seems like fuzzy-ware, and I would use caution.

You most likely have a case of a chipset specific problem, since this may
be a quick and dirty work-about by the mainboard vender.
Try it as a default DMA in the bios and see of if the error occurs again.
