SubjectUDMA and Linux
Greetings,
Ok. I have seen various threads about how unstable DMA is, but I am running
a IBM 8.4 GB hdd which is said to be stable. I just recently did a bios
upgrade (funny how they now have UDMA for a HX based pentium system) and got
UDMA as an option. My question is thus.

Can UDMA mode be used under linux, and if so what needs to be done to make it
work.

Is there a reason that my hdd is giving me a timeout when I try to start
a kernel with the DMA mode on in it. Specifically Linux 2.1.115. It gives
that hda timeout period exceeded, and then sys IDE DMA mode disabled.

Or is ther a howto that might be more help to me. Thanks a bunch

Mark
