Subject says it mostly. This has been prompted by one too many messages from knowledgeable folk saying things like "use make oldconfig", or "use make bzImage"...
These knowledgeable folk %-) can try and save themselves a lot of time by pointing us less educated types to the source of the info (which hopefully hasn't all been word of mouth).
There are reams of options in the main Makefile, some of which are probably wayyyyyy out of date and bad for the health, and others of which Linus probably uses every day, but very few are mentioned in the README (I must admit bzImage IS one of these).
Knowing when one does and doesn't need a "make mrproper" or a "make clean" etc. would be kinda useful for know-nothings like me.
