I just wanted to let people know that I see this too. Most of the time amd (from am-utils) works, however sometimes it does not. When it fails to start, I can do a ps aux | grep amd and see 2 amd processes running. I can kill one of the processes, but the other one is unkillable. If I get into this situation I cant get amd working w/o a reboot.
This is the same behavior I got w/ 2.1.115.
