To be fair, the X code is rather old, has a history of maintenance by suboptimal software engineering, and nobody of today's open software developers really wants to deal with that. (Like at one point NCFTP was rewritten from scratch because the old ugly BSD FTP code became unmaintainable, and that's tiny compared to X.)
