Like the (at least) 2 previous kernel versions, v2.1.111 will not build if console support is removed from the configuration. I am refering here to the "VGA Text Console" option in the kernel config menu.
The error appears like this:
drivers/video/video.a: could not read symbols: Archive has no index; run ranlib to add one make: *** [vmlinux] Error 1
The kernel builds (and runs) without error if console support is retained and all other options are unchanged.
